Wentworth Castle with East Yorkshire Embroidery Society
I had a fantastic weekend last weekend with a group of 18 ladies from yorkshire. We had a a LOVLEY workroom to use with all food and coffee laid on for us.
The weekend started with much excitement as getting to the castle was to prove to be an expedition across many flooded roads where you took your life in your hands and prayed that the water wasn’t to deep. At some points my car wheels were not always touching the road and an element of driving slowly and floating came in to play. We all made it to the castle in the end but some were not as fortunate ad others and conked out mid flood and had to wait to be rescued.
None the less the ladies turned out some fantastic work as you can see below.
Gold Work Owl
The weekend was a bit non descript so it afforded me the luxury of being able to finish my owl sample for a up coming work shop in July. This project is mainly couched cord work with just a taste of padding and stitching leather and I have used gold acrylic paint to add a flatter appearance to contrast the raised cords and gold leather. All I need to do now is present him so will be off today to buy a frame to complement him

Key Rings
Sorry long time since my last blog as I have been over worked creatively what with lectures and teaching. Last week was manic and I just didn’t stop long enough to even consider blogging. Never mind this week is calmer so here I am at gone 1 am in the morning writing this. Haha.
I haven’t been very productive since last blog other than finishing some of the key rings I promised my husband for our shop Xmas stock. Yes I know it’s only June but if I don’t start now he won’t get them and as they are small they can travel about with me for hand embellishing and finishing.
I came up with this idea when I was putting the little light weight husqvarna sewing machine through its paces and posted prior to this blog.
I thought these would make nice little gifts at affordable prices.
Waterfall Bag Workshop
I had a LOVLEY day teaching this workshop yesterday. The ladies were very susceptible to the idea of workng on flexible PVC. We laid organza strips between two sheets of plastic and freemotion stitched and decorated them, laminating them together to make the bag panels then we stamped flower shapes in acrylic paint on to the surplus PVC and machine embellished them to use as decoration once the bag was assembled.
What a Hoot of a Machine
Today was a really good day. I woke to sunshine instead of the what has become norm wet, cold and dreary weather. I got up with a mission in mind.
Little was I to know that a new sewing machine from Husqvarna head office had arrived downstairs.
I opened the box in excitement. Yes i know i have enough machines to sink a battleship now, but they still get my blood pumping thinking about what i’m gonna do on them. Yes sad i know but at least it doesn’t hurt me or anyone else and gives me hours of amusement while keeping me from nagging the family.
I only intended to sew a bit of fabric to get a feel for it. Jamie at head office had sent it because it is the one that the students i’m going to teach at the festival of quilts will be using. Well some three hours later and feeling totally inspired i came back up the garden from the studio with my head full of ideas and a virtually finished piece of work. The three hours had just vanished. I had sat down and set the machine for free motion stitching placing a scrappy piece of pelmet under the foot and just going for it, drawing what ever came to mind with the machine. This happened to be a tiny replica of the owl i had designed the previous night to work in Gold work. I surprised myself by finding it quite easy to just stitch it directly onto the fabric without drawing any guidance lines.
The new machine behaved beautifully and i was really impressed with it especially as it was a mid stream machine when i usually work on a computerised higher spec type. If you are looking for a class machine that is lighter to travel with or just a good every day machine that does everything needed for patchwork, quilting and creative embroidery this machine is a good starting point and wont break the bank. I would feel confident letting a beginner through to an experienced student loose with it and they would both be able to achieve their goals using it. It has 15 embroidery patterns included which are all really nice patterns to use and programming them is simply press a button.
It also sounded good which does make a difference when you are going to work on them for several hours. Incase you are wondering which model machine it is check out the pictures below.

Used my Acrylics watered down to add diluted and muted colouring as i didn’t want to loose the strong red lines to the design |
Puss Cat Key Fob
After clearing up the hugh mess of glitter and embossing powders i had been using to texture the mixed media heart brooches for a up coming workshop i decided to sit and finish this sad little puss.
He is a tiny key thob measuring about two and a half inches by two inches. Hopefully with him on the end of my keys I won’t lose the studio door keys again and waste my sewing time looking for them. Meow!!!!!

Miniature Baltimore Quilt Class
Saturday was a lovley quite and relaxing workshop with a lovley group of ladies all eager to learn some simple embroidery stitches to create little gems that once stitched together will make wonderfull miniature quilts, birthday cards or wall panels.
Gold worked heart, infillied with straight stitches and decorated round its outer edges with stem stitch, detached chain stitch and raised sequins. Very pretty |
It was lovley being able to relax and do some hand stitching Well it was wet outside so no guilt was felt by sitting and enjoying |
